New Delhi: One needs to change the mindset regarding the preference of having son over a daughter as a couple in Gujarat still wishes to have a son despite having 14 daughters
35-year-old Ramsinh Sangod, a farmer from Jharibhujhi village in Gujarat’s Dahod district, said that if he and his wife Kanu, who is pregnant for the 16th time, would have another daughter then they would give it another try to have a son.
On the other hand, Kanu shared that her body is very weak. She added that she agreed to have more babies as her husband had threatened her that he would marry again, Zee News reported.
Ramsinh in his defence said that in their custom, brother has a big role to play in his sister’s lives so it would be best to have a second son who can share the load and can look after the family.
As per the 2011 census, Dahod has a child sex ratio of 948 girls per 1000 boys; in 2001, it was 967 per 1000.
