Raipur — Bodies of four police personnel kidnapped by Maoists on Monday were recovered on from Chhattisgarh’s insurgent Bijapur district of Bastar region on Wednesday morning, few kilometers away from the spot of abduction.
Six police personnel were abducted on Monday by a group of armed Maoists from Kutru village in Bijapur from a passenger bus, of which two police informers were traced on Tuesday and hunt for other four were on.
Bijapur SP KL Dhruva said that Maoists have killed the four police personnel and their bodies were found at Kutru village near Gudma. “They were killed with sharp weapon,” he said.
Four police constables, earlier known as special police officers, were identified as Jaydev Yadav, Mangal Sodhi, Raju Tela and Rama Majji, posted at Kutru and Bedre police station, The Times of India reported.
Police said Maoists were yet to claim responsibility or reveal the motive behind the abduction. Rebels on Monday were reportedly conducting a checking of passenger buses and other vehicles en-route to Kutru from Bijapur in an apparent effort to find out whether any security personnel were travelling in the vehicles. Maoists had been repeatedly warning bus operators and other vehicles against allowing security personnel to board their vehicles.
On identifying police personnel travelling in a bus, Naxalites abducted them.
“The jawans had travelled to Bijapur without informing their seniors. We don’t allow jawans to travel freely without enough security cover,” Bijapur SP KL Dhurva said.
