Nagpur: As a child Amrina Kasim used to visit the court where her father worked as an office assistant. She would point to the judge’s chair and tell her father, “I want that chair.”
Ghulam Pathan did not dismiss his daughter’s words as childish gibbering, but encouraged her to chase her dream.
Pathan’s joy knew no bounds on October 16 when Amrina chased her dream and cracked a competitive exam to become a judicial officer. The 25-year-old young woman will soon sit on the chair of a judicial magistrate at a court near Nagpur.
The next day, the District Bar Association of Nagpur organized a program to felicitate her and others who cleared Judicial Magistrate First Class examination and their families., reports twocircles.net.
“I used to tell my father that ‘mujhe woh wali (judge’s) chair chahiye yeh nahi’ (I want that the judge’s chair). Today I am happy that ‘woh wali’ (that) chair is within reach now,” Amrina told the gathering.
She cleared JMFC exam in the first attempt. It was held in April this year.
She gave her father much of the credit for encouraging her to study when girls in her neighbor hood dropped out before tenth grade
Expressing delight after fulfilling her father’s dream she said at the podium, “My father’s most talks would revolve around examinations and results and not ‘rishtey’ (marriage proposals) which is common for an educated woman in 20s in our community.”
She had completed a five-year law degree course from Dr B R Ambedkar College of Law in 2011 and started practicing under former judge-turned-advocate Shyamnayan Abhyankar, who also guided her for the tough JMFC selection test.
Senior members of Nagpur’s judiciary applauded the young Muslim woman for unique achievement.
She is set to take her charge as one of the JMFCs in the Bhandara court October end.
