Panaji: Following direction from chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Goa police on Thursday handed over investigation into the death of social activist Bismarque Dias to crime branch.

“We have issued the order to transfer the Dias’ case to crime branch. The inquest proceeding would be now conducted by crime branch,” said deputy inspector general of police (DIG) V Renganathan

Earlier in the day, speaking to media persons Parsekar, said he has asked Goa police to transfer the case to crime branch for clarity, and there should no scope for suspicion that investigation is not conducted properly, The Times of India reported.

On November 6, Dias went missing after he went for a swim at night with two boys from St Estevam. Next day, Dias’ body was found floating in river Mandovi near Cupa at St Estevam island.

Police claimed Dias died due to drowning but his friends, family and some social activities refused to accept the police version. They alleged Old Goa police did not do proper investigation.
