Ranchi: Hundreds of tribal people on Thursday took out a protest march in the Jharkhand capital against the government’s 2037 masterplan for the state capital.

Under the banner of the Adivasi Adhikar Manch, the tribals displayed banners that said “Withdraw Ranchi 2037 master plan”.

They said they were unhappy as tribal organisations were not consulted before finalising the masterplan, Pro Kerala reported.

“We were not consulted before finalising the masterplan of Ranchi. The tribals’ land will be taken, and we will be displaced again,” said Manju Munda, a tribal woman protestor.

Jharkhand’s urban development department came out with the masterplan, considering the rising population and traffic issues in Ranchi.

The masterplan talks about road, electricity, housing, traffic development and other important issues.

“Tribals constitute 27 percent of the total population and we should be consulted while deciding key issues like masterplans. We are not against development but we should not be displaced in the name of development,” said Manki Oraon, another protestor.
