Guwahati – Some 100 varsity students and faculty in northeast India had an exposure programme on the impact of community radio on the local populace.
Prof Kandarpa Das, Founder-Director of Community Radio Radio Luit Guwahati addressed the faculty and students of Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) School of Social Sciences at Azara campus on Community Radio, January 11, 2016.
Prof Das insisted that “Community Radio is a powerful medium to give voice to the voiceless.”
Programmes are planned and designed to ensure maximum participation of the community members, he added.
Radio Luit’s activists regularly visit the surrounding villages to meet people from various vocations. Views and opinions from the community members are gathered on regular intervals regarding quality of transmission and their suggestions for new innovative programmes.
Programmes are broadcast in such a way that listeners become eager to listen to their own voice.
School children and their teachers are engaged regularly in production of variety programmes especially the most participating programme Mukoli Sora (Open Forum), where maximum participation of the community members is ensured.
After explaining in detail the various aspects of starting a community radio in the context of an educational institution Prof. Das encouraged both faculty and students to exploit the medium of community radio and come up with program of social relevance to the community.
The students and faculty had a vibrant inter-active session when they clarified various doubts regarding the medium and programming for it.
The ADBU Mass communication department students prepared and broadcast seven radio programs last November with Radio Luit.
