Agartala : Minority students in Tripura are gradually getting disillusioned about Madrasa education. The number of students appearing for Madrasa Alim, equivalent to Madhyamik and Madrasa Fazil and Madrasa Theology, both equivalent to Higher Secondary has been decreasing despite the number of Madrasa are increasing in the northeastern Indian state.

Sources in the secondary education board said only 40 students are appearing for Alim examination this year from six Madrasas which is less than the number of students appeared for the examination last year from four schools. Similar is the situation in case of Fazil and Theology, it said.

Sources indicated that the minority children and their guardians are losing interest as doors of higher education is closed for the Madrasa educated students and there is hardly any taker in the job market.

A minority leader said the parents want to send their children in general schools as opportunities there for higher education and jobs are much more.

The examinations of these began today along with the Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Examinations. Mihir Deb, president of the board in a press conference gave all details about the steps taken for conducting the examinations without any hassle.

Interestingly the statistics provided by him reveals that the number of students appearing for the Madhyamik examinations also decreased compared to last year. A total of 47,426 students are appearing for the examination this year which was 49,089 last year. It is learnt that the number of students are decreasing as many of the children are opting for schools affiliated to other secondary education boards like CBSE and ICSE.

The TBSE has decided to stop publishing merit lists from this tear. Instead it will introduce gradation system.
