Kolkata: From financing their own kits to the ‘Champion’ dance, the West Indies team’s World T20 triumph was nothing less than an inspirational story.
The West Indies team had conflicts with their cricket board yet it managed to pull off an emphatic World T20 final win over England by 4 wickets, that too under an inexperienced team manager.
Skipper Darren Sammy and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo lashed out at the West Indies Cricket Board stating there was no support from the board post final.
West Indies is the only team that has won the World T20 tournament twice. They defeated England in the final which was played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
After winning the final, the team managed out some amount of donation to the Missionaries of Charity congregation that has Kolkata as its base.
While the whole world has been grooving to “champion, champion” such as Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and the rest, the manager of the team Rawl Lewis took time off after the game and headed down to Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in the eastern Indian city.
The Missionaries of Charity nuns care for refugees, former sex workers, mentally ill, sick and abandoned children, lepers, people suffering from AIDS, the aged, and convalescent. They have schools to educate street children, soup kitchens and other social activities run by volunteers.
