Bhubaneswar: Samajwadi Party Odisha State Committee on Saturday draw attention of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) into the matter where six yadav families has been socially ostracized by the upper caste people in Odisha’s Sambalpur District.
IN a letter to NHRC chairperson Ravi Bdehera, SP’s state Committee president said, “6 Yadav families of village-Laiguda, P.S.- Mahulapali, Dist.- Sambalpur, Odisha have been socially boycotted by the upper caste people as they refused to do Nariha (menial works in the marriage ceremony, birthday ceremony and death rituals of the upper caste people. The upper caste people have banned to purchase food items from the local shopkeeper April 10, reported Yugabda.
Even the upper caste people gone to an extent of returning the Barat of 4 eligible on married yadav girls. On 7th April 2016, in the village committee meeting the boycotted yadav families were threatened by the villagers. They were humiliated by few upper caste leaders for refusing to do the Nariha, he said.
Alleging inaction of the local police and district administration he said, “Though the matter have been reported to the Mahulapali P.S. on April 14 and 19 by one Mr. Saroj Gouda, the local police is yet to take in action on the matter. The matter has been brought to the notice of S.P., Sambalpur, Collector, Sambalpur, Sub-Collector, Kuchinda and DIG of Police Northern Range, Sambalpur but no action has been taken till today.”
Give justice to these socially boycotted 6 Yadav families by giving direction to the respective state authorities as it is a case of Human Rights violation, he requested in the letter.
