Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik on Saturday created an art piece in Puri, to pay tribute to all mothers on the occasion of Mother’s Day.

Patnaik recently won gold medal at the ninth sand sculpture championship in Moscow, for his 15-feet high art work ‘Mahatma Gandhi’s sculpture for non-violence and peace’.

Having traversed an arduous path from a child labour to an acclaimed sand sculptor, Sudarsan Pattnaik laments lack of support for artists and wants government and corporates to encourage and promote those pursuing creative pursuits.

“Our country is home to many artists who are endowed with extraordinary talents but unfortunately most of them fail to hone their skills in the absence of necessary support,” said Sudarsan, who has participated in more than 50 international sand sculpture championships across the world and won many awards for the country.

In 2014, he was honoured with the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri.
