The third in the series of the successful 1920 franchise, 1920 LONDON, holds promise of a good melodious musical outing, the kind one has witnessed in the previous two Vikram Bhatt ventures. Sharib-Toshi, regular for Bhatt camp (and for horror flicks like RAAZ), and new musicians Kaushik-Akash have been chosen to compose the music.
Its trademark Sharib-Toshi hauntingly melodious and poignant outing, ‘Aaj Ro Lene De‘ that greets listeners first up. The desi/ rural arrangements charm senses and the pain of separation is expressed well through some superb lyrics, simple Urdu and Hindi.
Lovely piano drills commences another superb romantic interlude, ‘Rootha Kyun‘, which has a nice lovely addictive tune and infectious chorus ‘main toh tere shab ki subah hoon na‘ that stays in memory. The song has shades of ‘Tuhi Meri Shab Hai‘ (GANGSTER) because of its lyrics, but the similarity ends there. Mohit Chauhan excels and is supported well by the composers and female vocalist Payal Dev puts up a spirited performance.
Shaan is just apt for the racy romantic ditty ‘Tujhko Main‘ and full marks to Sharib-Toshi for coming up with another lovely fresh simple tune and nice fun and frilly arrangements. The harmonica is charming.
It’s another racy love track, ‘Aafreen’, that guest composers Kaushik-Akash for J.A.M come up with and the song is pleasant to the ears but tune is quite heard before. KK and Antara Mitra render the number with ease. One detects a shade of Vishal-Shekhar for Karan Johar films here.
Summing up, the audio of 1920 LONDON is pretty much in the lines of its predecessors and Sharib-Toshi come up with apt compositions, a couple of which may touch the popularity charts. ‘Aaj Ro Lene De‘ and ‘Rootha Kyun‘ are our picks. The only sore point is that the variety is missing, as also a good haunting and a back of the nape hair raising number!
