Bhubaneswar: A student of a Catholic school in a remote village in Odisha made history when he topped the tenth grade under the Indian School Certificate Examination.
Abineet Parichha of Little Flower School, Balangir secured 99.2 percent with 100 marks each in mathematics, social science and computers, 98 marks in Science and English and 96 in Odia, the state language.
“Dream marks indeed. I was expecting to score above 95 percent but didn’t expect to be all-India topper. I want to pursue my career in cosmology,” said Abineet, son of Sukant Parichha, a businessman, and Purnamasi Parichha, a homemaker.
Another student from Odisha Karan Agrawal of St Paul’s School, Rourkela has secured third position in all India in ICSE with 98.8 percent marks. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) declared Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) for class X and Indian School Certificate Examination (ISC) for class XII results on May 6.
Principal of Little Flower School, Balangir, Sister Teena Joseph, said, “It is a proud moment for all of us that the boy from a small town became all-India topper. Abineet has been a very consistent and brilliant student from childhood. He will certainly be an inspiration for other students.”
A total 6,848 students of 88 schools in Odisha appeared for the ICSE exam while 1,502 students of 27 schools appeared the ISC exam. The pass percentage of ICSE and ISC students in Odisha is 98.22 percent and 92.34 percent respectively.
“Students of Odisha have done exceptionally well as two of our students are in all-India top-10 list. Most schools have done 100 percent results,” said principal St. Paul’s School Rourkela, Fr. Joseph, who is also the secretary of ICSE schools in Odisha.
Aarushi Kollana from Ruchika High School, Bhubaneswar, and Somnath Jena from the Nirmala Convent School, Keonjhar came third with 98.2 percent in the tenth grade.
In ISC for class XII Ipsita Tripathy of Ispat English Medium School has topped in the state with 98 percent marks followed by Subrajeet Panda of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Rourkela with 97.75 percent and Suryanarayan Acharya of Ispat English Medium School with 97.50 percent.
