Tinsukia: All the priest of Miao diocese in northeastern India today attended an animation program in connection with the Jubilee of Mercy.
The diocese is celebrating its tenth anniversary when the Universal Church is observing the Year of Mercy. It has been organizing a series of events for various groups in the diocese.
All 47 priests of the diocese attended the June 2 animation program held at Kristu Jyothi Niwas in Tinsukia, a major town in neighboring Assam state.
“Mercy is not a term but a person, Jesus Christ. And we priests must be that visible face of Christ, who is the merciful face of the Father,” said the resource person, Fr. Kuriakose, who teaches at Oriens Theological College, Shillong, capital of Meghalaya state.
Bishop George Pallipparambil of Miao, introducing the event said, “The fundamental identity of priests is to be merciful like the heavenly Father. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation a priest enacts this aspect of the Heavenly Father.”
The diocese began its decennial celebration with a three-day grand youth convention that ended on May 29. The next program is “Mercy Animation” for the women religious working in the diocese on June 4 at the same venue.
The diocese was established in 2005 with Salesian Bishop Pallipparambil as its first prelate.
