Sonepur: Panic gripped an Odisha village after a strange kidney killed five people and hospitalized eight others.
Sources said residents of Majhimunda, a village under Sonepur district, are living in fear as the disease spreads with each passing day.
Nobody in the health department has any idea about the real cause behind the disease, reports odishatv.in.
Villagers alleged that the district administration has ignored their complaints.
The Chief District Medical Officer had promised to provide all assistance to those affected by the disease, but no help has come so far, they grumbled.
Most villagers have stopped using water from tube wells for drinking fearing it could lead to the disease.
The administration plans to inspect the water quality of the locality on the suspicion that it could be the reason.
Asked what steps the district administration is taking to curb the menace, the medical officer said the department will depute a medical team to village to find out the actual reason behind the incident.
”We will provide financial assistance to people after having a discussion with the district collector,” he said.
