Anand: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Gujarat university professor for allegedly accepting bribe to clear a doctorate student.
H N Patel, head of the Sociology Department in Sardal Patel University in Anand district was arrested on July 18 for accepting 90,000 rupees to clear the PhD degree of a student.
The student had complained that he had already paid 210,000 rupees to the professor, the ACB said. The professor had initially demanded 600,000 rupees, but later agreed for half that amount.
The bureau said the professor was “caught red handed” when it laid a trap for him.
The ACB asked the student, whose identity is being withheld, to call Patel at the common parking of a bank, where he was nabbed.
