Cherrapunji: In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Monday, Cherrapunji has recorded 447.8 mm. This is a huge amount and with this Cherrapunji has broken the last 10 years’ record of highest 24-hour rainfall.

The month of April was also quite rainy for this small town located on the edge of Khasi Hills. On April 23, Cherrapunji received torrential rains and recorded a whopping 420 mm of rain. This happened to be the highest in the past 10 years.

Thus, a new rainfall record has been set in Cherrapunji this July as well. So far this month, Cherrapunji has received 2044.4 mm of rainfall. This is nothing unusual as this place is the rainiest place in the world after Mawsynram, which is a village in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. In fact, the monthly average rainfall in Cherrapunji is 2992 mm.
