Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government, Eastern India, has decided to name a road after Mother Teresa, according to government sources.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) notified that BMC in its meeting dated August 28 resolved for naming of fly over road from Satyanagar to Cuttack-Puri Road as “Mother Teresa Road. The notice was issued by additional commissioner, BCM.

This declaration of naming of the road came after Archbishop John Barwa of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar and head of Catholic Church in Odisha requested to Dr. Krishan Kumar, BMC commissioner with a written to name a road in Bhubaneswar, state capital, on the occasion of canonization of Blessed Mother Teresa of Missionaries of Charites, Kolkata.

In his response, Archbihsop Barwa, Chairman of Odisha Catholic Bishops Council, elated with this gesture of the government to honour Mother Teresa.

“We are elated with the government’s decision to name a road after Mother Teresa,” Sister Mary Olivet, regional head of Missionaries of Charity Sisters in Odisha.

At the request of former Chief Minister of Odisha, Janaki Ballabh Patnaik, MC Sister had started eradication of leprosy mission in Janla, Khurda Road who take care of affected and infected lepers also make hospital for the leprosy patients.

In Odisha MC Sisters work in 11 houses indifferent district in six dioceses of Odisha.
