Mumbai: A child will only emulate what his teacher shows him through example. So, the classroom must become a creative zone for entertainers, who will hold their audience spellbound, says Joey Mendonza, song writer, composer and director of stage dramas.
He was talking to pre-primary and primary school the teachers as they gathered for the release of two nursery rhymes cds titles Co Co La Vissa and Five Little Monkeys by the Pauline Communications, Bandra.
The occasion provided the teachers to have a session on peace, love and harmony, to add new life and creativity into the regular teaching methods of teachers by the Mendonza Muzikals team.
The session promoted the idea, that it is important to be a happy teacher and carry a smile and enthuse joy in the children we teach, said Sr Michaelle, director of Pauline Communications. The teachers were given an opportunity to have a vicarious experience of being young and thus jump and dance, and feel oneness with the children they associate with in their schools.
According to Joey a member of the Jazz Choir, Ettlingen, Germany, “A teacher, as an entertainer, lightens up the teaching learning process, infusing a lot of humour in his lessons; a splash of colour, a dash of discipline, a shower of happiness and a feeling of being a family. The child in turn, learns to grow into a confident individual, becoming an element of change in society.
Bernina Sachin Carvalho, a teacher from Nazareth school, said, “As teachers we are challenged to make models of ourselves, so that for generations to come , our students will imitate our fun loving nature, our resilience in tough situations and our choice to make happiness a constant, in our classrooms.
According to Shirpad S Lele of Sri Sri Ravisankar Vidya Mandir, “The sessions gave us oxygen for teaching. Our classes will definitely be a joyful one because of these.”
About 600 teachers benefited from the two-hour sessions conducted on three weekends, the last being on August 6.
Mendonza and his team reach out across the country, working with educators, creating music material resources.
