Raipur: With a view to check incidents of eve-teasing and molestation at schools, colleges, coaching centres and parks, a special patrolling vehicle for women’s safety was launched on Friday.
The patrolling team of six women police personnel would take rounds across the city to get hold of anti-social elements and would also connect to women helpline number.
Raipur range inspector general of police Pradeep Gupta inaugurated the PCR van at police control room. The patrolling vehicle bears women helpline number 1091 and 100.
Specialised to address problems related to women, this is first such PCR van to dedicated for women by women cops.
According to officials, in cases related to women irrespective of any jurisdiction, PCR would reach to particular spot, The Times of India reported.
Patrolling from 8am to 10pm, it would regularly take rounds near park, malls and markets too.
Women cops would work in shifts and if needed during festivals and wedding season, the PCR would patrol till late nights.
Officials said that until now, colleges and school areas remained most ignored. Occasionally, ‘operation majnu’ was conducted or else teams had to wait for women staff to reach the spot when the accused were caught. “But now the response time would be saved as we have special team of women cops to resolve problem.”
