Guwahati – A church group in northeast India has launched a coaching centre to train young people hailing from eight states of northeast India for Civil Service competitive exams.
The group christened North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS) commonly known as Social Forum – the social wing of the Regional Bishops’ Council in North East India launched “INSIGHT Civil Services Academy” under the aegis of North East Regional Catholic Bishops’ Council.
It is expected to provide exclusive coaching and guidance for IAS/IPS/IFS/ACS and other competitive exams to those hailing from 15 dioceses of the region.
“The Coaching centre has been set up to take lead in the professional development of those aspiring candidates who have immense potential but due to lack of proper opportunity are not able to compete at the national level,” says Executive Director of the Social Forum Fr Varghese Velickakam.
To commemorate the inauguration of ICSA, NEDSSS organized an inaugural ceremony on 3 rd October, 2016 from 3.00 pm onwards at NEDSSS, Kharghuli, Guwahati.
The program saw Member of Legislative Assembly , Guwahati Shri Siddhartha Bhattacharya, as its Chief Guest and former Health Secretary , Govt of Kerela, Mr. Ramanus Horo (IAS), Member of Commission for Minorities, Govt of Assam Mr. Allen Brooks, and former Financial Adviser, Govt of Assam Mr Jayanta Madhav as guests of honour.
The dignitaries were felicitated with Assamese traditional gamosa and a bouquet.
The celebration began with a short prayer performed by the first batch of ICSA followed by a warm welcome address by Fr. Varghese Velickakam, Executive Director, NEDSSS and director of ICSA.
Speaking on the occasion Fr. Varghese Velickakam shared how the idea for a coaching institute was conceived and dawned into a beautiful reality today.
He emphasized on good governing practices which is associated with accountable political leadership, enlightened policy making and a civil service imbued with a professional ethos.
He further added that INSIGHT aims to train students who would become value based Civil Servants in public office.
The president/ Chairperson of NEDSSS Archbishop John Moolachira of Guwahati also encouraged the students by his words of wisdom citing various examples of social activism.
The Chief Guest for the evening Shri Siddhartha Bhattacharya conveyed the message that North East Regional Catholic Bishops’ Council has given a platform for the student of North East and has urged aspiring students to come forward and grasp the opportunity and be a part of this programme.
Encouraging Speeches by the guests of honour and magnificent cultural performances by various tribes of North East were the special highlights of the program.
The program concluded with breath taking bihu dance performed by the freshers of ISCA.
