Kabul: At least 27 people were killed and 35 wounded on November 21 when an explosion took place inside a Shia mosque in the Afghan capital of Kabul, local media reported.

The explosion triggered by a suicide bomber happened in Baqer-ul-uloom mosque in the Darul Aman area.

Several police vehicles raced from the scene, ferrying the wounded to hospital.

Initial reports suggested at least 13 people, including children, were killed.

An official said the attacker entered the mosque as people were preparing for prayers, but he gave no further details.

Another report said the suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest after entering the mosque.

According to reports, the attack was targeted at the people who had gathered to mourn for the Arbaeein (or the 40th day) of Ashura.

Some reports in Afghan media also quoted Taliban spokesperson as rejecting its involvement in the deadly blast.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has denied his group had a role in the fatal attack, the network added.

This is the second blast to rock the Afghan capital on Monday.
