Siliguri: A college in the second commercial capital of West Bengal in Siliguri made history when they organised academic talent contest for high schoolers in North Bengal along with its annual inter-college events.
Salesian Collge Siliguri Campus (SCSC) organised three day Annual Cultural and Literary Festival, Innovision 2016 from 24 to 26 November 2016.
“The student and faculty coordinators, the production team, hospitality team, logistics, security and volunteers, each pitched in to keep things in order,” said Director of Campus Ministry and Vice Principal Morning session at SCSC, Fr Aju Kurian complimenting students and faculty.
The 3-day events started with the inaugural ceremony which witnessed a welcome speech by Campus Coordinator Mr. Peter Lepcha and inspirational talk by Vice Principal Fr. (Dr)George Chempakathinal. Rector Dr. (Fr) Mathew Pulingathil explained to students about the main purpose of the festivals.
It all began on Thursday 24 November, with the Taverna Trophy, an Inter College basketball championship, organized for the first time by SCSC in memory of the pioneer of Don Bosco School establishments in the 40 acre Siliguiri campus – Italian missionary late Fr. Paul Taverna who arrived at Siliguri in late 1960s .
In chorus, three different events took place . On day one – ‘Innovision’, ‘The Taverna Trophy’ and ‘Compumathix’, a talent contest for the higher secondary school students of science stream in a well orchestrated manner.
The BCA and BSc departments of SCSC organized various events like sketching and painting, and collage making for high schoolers event christened Compumathix. It also included competitions like Impresario (Mock CAT), Math Quiz, and Website making competitions.
The first inter-college basket ball championship for Taverna Trophy had five colleges participating including Salesian College Siliguri Campus, Inspiria Knowledge Campus, St.Xavier’s College (NBU), SIEM, and Salesian College Sonada.
The first day concluded with the closure of Compumathix 2016 after declaring Army Public School, Bangdubi as the champions.
Salesian College Siliguri Campus won both the Men and Women events bagging Taverna Trophy 2016.
The second day had most of the events under Innovision 2016 consisted of Quiz-o-Mania and Solo Songs and Indo-Western Fusion band.
Third day’s events included several innovative and creative competitions including photography, theme dance, debate and a fashion show.
