New Delhi: The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India on December 12 greeted Muslims on the occasion Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.

A statement from conference secretary general Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas says the festival of Id-e-Milad commemorates the Prophet’s teachings.

“During this festival when the Muslims are invited to recall and emulate the Prophet’s mercy for all mankind, his forgiveness, generosity, gentleness, trustworthiness and all his noble behavioural attributes, we join them in praying for an India full of these virtues,” the press release says.

The bishops prayed for compassion and gentleness to prevail in India and for its citizens to grow in respect for each other so that they could build “a stronger, more harmonious and peaceful” nation.
