Pune: The deputy director of education has sent a recommendation to the director of primary education requesting cancellation of the recognition given to Bishop’s School on Wednesday.
Principal of Bishop’s School Frank Freese denied any knowledge of the proposal.
On Tuesday, the Zilla Parishad sent a letter to the deputy director of education, Pune division, asking to derecognize the school citing various violations.
The letter points out nine factors that have contributed to the recommendation. The reasons include the school’s refusal to produce a No objection Certificate, its refusal to participate in the baseline test or to be inspected by education officials, among others.
This is not the first time that such letters recommending cancellation of a school’s recognition have been put forward by the education department. However, no concrete action has been taken against these schools as yet, The Times of India reported.
Education activist Kalpesh Yadav said, “The school does not fulfil the criteria to be called a minority institution but even so it claims all exemptions that a minority status provides. The education department should not discriminate between schools and take strict action against such defaulters.”
When contacted, Freese said, “The school is closed due to Christmas holidays. We have not received any notice from the government.”
