Thiruvanthapuram: The people of Neyyattinkara in Thiruvanathapuram district of Kerala had an extra ordinary reason to celebrate. For, Godwin Christo who served them for more than a decade as a tailor, was ordained a priest of their diocese yesterday.
Fr. Godwin was born as the sixth child to late Christu Das and Jessy of Parassala in Thrivanthapuram district. Due to severe financial difficulties he had stop his studies at the age of 15.
He started working for his brother at the family owned tailoring shop, and later set up a shop on his own. But soon Godwin realised his priestly calling.
At the age of 29, he joined the Bethany Ashram in Nalanchira for seminary studies, where he completed his graduation. He also completed studies in Philosophy from Pune.
After 14 years of priestly studies, Fr.Godwin Christo was ordained on Sunday by Baselios Cleemis Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church . He celebrated his first mass at his native parish church of St.Mary’s Church , Panayarakkal in Thiruvanthapuram.
Fr.Godwin’s journey to priesthood stands as yet another shining testimony of the Lord’s call .
