Shillong: The All Meghalaya Dancers’ Association (AMDA) on Monday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma demanding that AMDA be recognized as a government sponsored body in facilitating the unexposed talented dancers and singers of the present and next generations.
In the memorandum submitted to the CM, the Association said, “Our Association, which is established in 2002, is the first of its kind in our State which facilitated a number of young budding talented dancers and singers without any financial assistance from the government till date.”
“It is a fact that this Association, in its small humble effort, has been able to send competitors from the State for the last decade to participate at the National Level competitions. It is our pleasure to state herewith that some of them have recently been selected to represent India at the International World Dancing Championship held in the United States of America,” the association said in the memorandum.
The association informed that CM that 24 dancers from the State have been deprived of their chance to participate in a reality show competition dubbed as ‘Thy Miracle Choir of Choice’ conducted by Raising Star Colour TV Channel on February 17, 2017 due to fund constraints.
In the memorandum the Association feels that the time is right to set up an Institution in this aspect which will not only open up an avenue for our young talented youth but will also create job opportunities for the young educated unemployed youth.
In this connection, the Association is capable enough to undertaken the responsibility in materializing the aims and objectives of such proposed institute.
“The proposed government-run Dances Institute would immensely benefit the talented youth hailing from the poor section of the communities in the State, as Private Institutions proved unaffordable for the majority,” the association said.
The Association in the memorandum also demanded the government to donate vehicle for movements of the Association’s officials.
