Kochi: Robin Vadakkancheril, the Catholic priest accused of raping and impregnating a minor girl, has approached the Kerala High Court seeking bail.
Vadakkumcherry argued that his custody was not required any more as police had completed investigation and has filed the final report, reported The Times of India.
The former vicar of St Sebastian Church at Kottiyoor in Kannur district is accused of sexually abusing the 17-year-old girl, an eleventh grader, at the computer class provided by the church. The girl had delivered a baby boy who was allegedly sent to an adoption center managed by nuns.
In addition to the priest, seven persons, were made accused in the case by police for failing to report the delivery by a minor girl at Kristhu Raj Hospital at Koothuparamba and for admitting the child at the orphanage.
According to police, the priest had first tried to implicate the girl’s father and had then tried to flee to Canada to evade arrest but the attempt failed.
