Kochi: A Catholic priest in Kerala has set the internet buzzing with his amazing skills on the dance floor.
A video that has gone viral shows the priest dancing with young boys and girls in front of a church.
Viewers have applauded Father Merton D’Silva’s dancing skills. “The priest dances better than the youngsters,” remarked one viewer.
Father D’Silva serves at St Ambrose Church in Vypeen, an island on the outskirts of Kochi, Kerala’s commercial capital. He joined a group of youngsters dancing to a Christian song. He performed the dance as a part of a flash mob, but his cool dance moves have made the video popular on the internet.
Several parishioners said they were surprised to learn that their pastor dances so well. Father D’Silva is full of energy, never misses a step and is as graceful and flexible as a professional dancer. “In fact he is so good, that the young boys and girls dancing next to him, pale in comparison and energy,” says a report in india.com.
The news portal terms as a pity that the priest chose to serve God “otherwise he could have made one hell of a choreographer or a dancer.”
It also remarks that the priest has cleared the popular notion that priests, maulvis and pundits “are very serious and boring people” who know only scriptures and holy books.
“Bollywood, music and dance will be something that they will not be familiar with at all. However, these are only perceptions and stereotypes and more often than not the truth is far from these notions,” it adds.
