Varanasi: A number of social activists protested the killing of the renowned lady journalist Gauri Lankesh in Varanasi on September 6.

The social activists of Varanasi under the banner of Sajha Sanskriti Manch and NAPM, Joint Action Committee of the students of Banaras Hindu University along with the members of Wayside Vendors Association had a candle light rally from Shastri Ghat at Varuna Pil to Kachahary.

The artists of Prerana Kala Manch sang songs in honour of martyr Gauri. At the end of the rally people gathered in front of the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar and expressed their anger and anguish. They also paid homage to Gauri Lankesh and lauded her courage in exposing the fascist, fundamentalist elements.

Jagriti Rahi, Dr. Muneeza Khan, Anop Shramik, Ekta Shekhar and Dr. Neeti Bhai spoke condemning the killing and appealed to people to defeat the fundamentalists who killed Gauri Lankesh.

Satish Singh, Vallabh, Suresh Rathaur, Dhananjay, Anand Tiwary, Mahendra Rathaur, Urmila Patel, Fr. Dayakar, Dr. Rakshit and many other activists were present.
