Yangon: The Asia Mission Conference organized by the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) is all set to kick off in Yangon, Myanmar.
More than 400 delegates representing member churches, councils, ecumenical partners, missionaries, missiologists, theologians, theological students, and others from Asia and around the globe will arrive in the former capital of the Buddhist majority nation on October 11 to attend the seven-day event.
The theme of the event named, AMC-2017, is “Journeying Together: Prophetic Witness to the Truth and Light, in Asia.” This is the second mission congress of the Asian Church. The first was one 23 years ago in Seoul, South Korea.
The AMC-2-17 coincides with the conference’s diamond jubilee. CCA was founded in 1957 at the Asian Church Leaders’ Conference on the theme, Our Common Evangelistic Tasks.
While being engaged in its mission and witness, the CCA has journeyed through the past six decades to fulfill its mandates of serving and enriching the churches in Asia, says its general secretary Mathews George Chunakara.
“We ardently pray and sincerely hope that the Asia Mission Conference – 2017 and the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the CCA, will facilitate deeper discussions, and will lead to greater dedication and to relevant and meaningful recapturing and re-articulation of our commitment to the mission, the act of the Almighty God,” the Reverend Chunakara said.
The formal opening of the congress is October 12 and its conclusion in the afternoon on October 16. The jubilee celebrations is on October 15 in a grand commemorative event in the presence of a gathering, including the AMC delegates. The jubilee shares the mission congress theme.
CCA was founded in 1957 to promote ecumenism among different churches across Asia.
“We call upon all member churches, councils and all other partners of the CCA to observe Asia Sunday, October 15, in the most befitting way and to pray especially for the CCA,” Chunakara told Matters India.
Representatives of CCA member churches and councils, especially heads of churches, general secretaries and presidents, and moderators, secretaries of Mission and Evangelism departments of churches and councils are invited to be part of these seminal events.
