Pune: A Catholic nun, who has empowered girl children as a teacher in western India, has won the best teacher award this year given by Pune Municipal Corporation.
Apostolic Carmel Sister Marisa, headmistress of Mount Carmel, Lullanagar, Pune, was one among 20 teachers from ‘ Pune Education Hub’ to be honored with the prestigious award.
They received the award from Vinod Tawade, Education Minister of Maharashtra state on October 8.
The award was created in response to the pressure on educators to improve the educational standard for ‘ Building a Better Nation.’
Sister Marisa has served in the congregation of Apostolic Carmel for the past several years. In her career as teacher, Sister Marisa helped mold and empower the girl child by providing an all-round development through academics, sports, co-curricular activities and spiritual values.
