Patna: A goodwill meet organized by a Jesuit college in Patna has stressed the need for giving quality time for children to ensure a healthy future society.

The root of all problems lies in not giving time to each-other. Patient listening, sympathetic understanding, and timely encouragement is all that is needed for a proper nurturing of child, said Jesuit Father Joseph Pullikal on December 17 while addressing “Sadbhaawna Samaagam” (goodwill get together) organized by St. Xavier’s College and St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology in the capital city of Bihar state.

The college began this annual event three years ago in the Christmas season. It invites parents of its students for a get-together. The occasion is celebrated by festive singing of carols and exchange of season’s greetings.

The theme for this year’s meet was ‘Parent-Teacher Partnership.’

Father Pullikal, director of ‘Aashadeep (light of hope) Vocational Training Center, Muzzafarpur, discussed with the parents the importance of spending quality time with young adults.

After listening to the keynote speaker, parents were grouped into small teams to discuss the issue further and share their experiences. The college faculty conducted a mini-workshop on parent-teacher partnership in bringing up children. The discussion stressed the importance of this shared responsibility.

College principal Father T Nishaant said his institution strives to bring holistic development of its students.

The Xavier Theatre Group staged a short skit, based on the theme of the meet. Directed by Ajay Kumar, the skit portrayed the tragic consequence of not listening to the children. It also brought out the triumphant victory that the students can achieve with just a little bit of attention, care, and love.
