Kochi: Carmelite Father Augustine Mulloor, a noted scripture professor and writer, has won the prestigious the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC), Media Commission’s Vyjnanika Award 2017 for his philosophical and intellectual contributions.
He is the current provincial of the Manjummel Province of Discalced Carmelite or OCD, Kerala and executive committee member of Kerala Conference of Major Superiors (KCMS), the Kerala Regional body of CRI (Conference of Religious India). He has been teaching various courses on the Bible and spirituality in many Theological seminaries and centers of Christian spirituality in India and abroad.
The media awards have been instituted by KCBC Media Commission to acknowledge and honour the talented Catholic dignitaries in various media fields of arts, literature, culture and philosophy. The KCBC is the Regional Bishops’ Council for the State of Kerala, which is constituted under the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) to cater the special needs of the apostolate in the State.
The media award winners are decided by a panel of experts in consultation with the Commission Chairman and the Pastoral Orientation Centre (POC) director. POC is the secretariat of the KCBC and the regional pastoral center of the Catholic Church in Kerala.
Various awards are given under various titles such as Sahithya Award, Media Award, Yuva – Prathibha Award, Guru Pooja Puraskar, Samskriti Puraskar and Vyjnanika Award.
The award will be presented at the Media Day Celebration at POC, Palarivattom on July 15.
Every year KCBC Media commission honors the talented dignitaries in the various media field. Application forms were sent to two hundred selected persons all over Kerala including all the Bishops and Media Directors of the Dioceses.
A panel of Jury short listed the eligible candidates and in consultation with Commission Chairman and the POC Director the Media Award winners were selected.
KCBC Media Commission was established in 1976. In the beginning, the media commission focused on various training programmes in POC and in other Diocesan centers in view of building a resource team for media. Later the Commission was engaged in several activities to promote the Catholic presence in the media World.
From 1993 onwards the Commission office functions as the regional office of Vatican Radio Malayalam section. A monthly called Vathikan Tharangam with the message and other activities of Pope is printed and published from this office which is circulated in almost all the Parish Churches and Dioceses in Kerala.
