Imphal: A court in Manipur, northeastern India, has ordered a DNA profiling of an infant born to a rape survivor.

A Noutuneshwari Devi, special Judge of the POCSO court in Senapati, on May 29 ordered the profiling of the rape survivor as well as her attacker.

The girl gave birth to a premature child on May 28.

The accused identified as Purna Ale, 38, allegedly raped the minor girl in October last year and made her pregnant.

Meanwhile, the newly-born baby girl is under the custody of Child Welfare Committee, Senapati.

As the infant’s health deteriorated, the committee shifted the baby to a hospital for treatment. The child weighs only around 1.5 kilogram.

The court ordered the medical superintendent to arrange for the DNA profiling immediately.

It also ordered the investigation officer (IO) of the case to produce the victim girl for DNA profiling at the earliest. The investigating officer is also at liberty to approach the jail superintendent for taking out the accused from jail for DNA profiling.

The court further directed the IO to submit charge sheet against the accused person as soon as possible.

The family members of the victim lodged a written complaint to police on March 19 stating that the victim was sexually assaulted by the accused.

The complaint stated that the accused invited the victim to his house on the pretext that his daughter cannot sleep alone. On the same night, the accused raped the minor.

A complaint was lodged and the accused was arrested and registered a case POCSO Act, 2012. He is still in judicial custody for further investigation of the case.
