Baripada: Police in Odisha have arrested four people on the charge of killing a man on the suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
The four have been accused of murdering Sanu Singh of Mankandkenda in Mayurbhanj district’s Chandua police station limits on June 11. His body was found next morning with injury marks.
The accused, aged between 25 and 30 years, have been identified as Siba Singh and his brother Dhuna Singh of Mankandkenda village and Vivekananda Hansda and Dasmat Marandi of Pandusole village
The police have registered a murder case and began investigation with the help of the forensic team. During investigation, the police came to know about the role of Siba Singh. During investigation, he confessed to the truth.
Death of one of their family members about a year ago and frequent sickness of other family members led to suspicion about his role.
Siba consulted a sorcerer who had hinted that Sanu was bringing curse to his family members through his black magic.
Siba, along with his brother Dhuna, hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Sanu. They then hired goons Vivekananda and Dasmat to get Sanu killed, the police said. After arresting the four accused, the police recovered the weapon – a chopper – used for the crime.
Baripada sub-divisional police officer Abhimanyu Nayak said the accused were produced in court. They have been booked under section 302 (murder) of IPC and Odisha Prevention of Witch-hunting Act, 2013.
“The deceased was killed by the four accused on the direction of mastermind Siba Singh. The deceased was made to drink alcohol before being killed,” he said.
