Guwahati: More than half the journalists in Guwahati, Assam, are in need of thorough eye checkup and treatments.

This was revealed at a daylong eye screening camp organized at the Guwahati Press Club on July 7.

The Eye Doctors, a city based eye institute and surgery center that organized the camp, says journalists who use digital screen for hours daily as part of their profession are at the risk of damaging their eyesight. Most scribes need to undergo regular eye checkups, it center says.

Senior eye surgeon Doctor Bindu Singla Goel conducted the camp, where around 60 journalists participated and went with preliminary screening of their eyes. She says scribes should undergo regular eye checkups and treatments to maintain their eyesight.

The physician was assisted by health workers and a few employees of Cipla and Alcon.

The Press Club regularly conducts healthcare clinic for its members. Several hospitals in the city, the commercial capital of Assam, support the initiative.
