Hyderabad, October 30,2018: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has made several promises, including Scheduled Castes status to Dalit Christians, free education to the children of pastors, priests and mauzams and construction of houses for all religious leaders.
Speaking at a meeting with Christian associations and pastors here on Monday, Mr. Reddy alleged that targeting of some religions had increased in the country after Narendra Modi had become the Prime Minister. He accused the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre of creating communal divide in the country by creating problems to the institutions of some religions.
He said it is only the Congress that would treat people of all faiths and religions equally in the country and underscored the need for bringing the party back to power both in Telangana and at the Centre. On coming to power, the Congress Government would give top priority to the security of religious minorities, he said.
He also promised free power supply to the places of worship of all religions, subsidy to Christians visiting Jerusalem, construction of Christian Bhavan within a year of coming to power and providing a corpus fund of ₹100 crore for Christian Corporation.
The TPCC chief alleged that caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had undertaken Delhi visit in the name of eye and dental check-up only to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi secretly as part of Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s (TRS) hidden pact with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Meanwhile, another senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir also alleged that the sudden decision of Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao to visit Delhi had once again exposed the TRS’ deal with BJP leadership. “Where is the need for Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao to visit Delhi for eye-check up as national and international leaders are coming to super speciality eye hospitals located in Hyderabad for treatment,” Mr. Shabbir Ali sought to know.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council said the TRS is sailing with the BJP for survival as the party had lost the confidence of large sections of people in the State after its failure to keep several pre-poll promises, including double-bedroom house for all homeless poor.
