Infighting in church: Mor Baselios Thomas expresses readiness to resign

Kochi, April 30, 2019: Mor Baselios Thomas I has expressed his readiness to resign from his post of Catholicos of India, following infighting in the church.

Mor Baselios Thomas has sent a letter to patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church Ignatius Aphrem II
expressing his readiness to resign.

In the letter, Mor Baselios Thomas also alleges conspiracy against him by the new administrative committee, reported Mathrubhumi.

Mor Baselios Thomas has requested to relieve him from the posts of Metropolitan Trustee and Catholicos of
India. The new administrative committee was established several months ago. Mor Baselios Thomas and the
committee were in a dispute ever since.

It is alleged that the committee spread false information against Mor Baselios Thomas regarding cash collection in the church using social media. In his letter sent to Damascus, Mor Baselios Thomas states that he does not own any property and has handed over all of it to the church.
