New Delhi, May 6, 2019: Salesian Father Jacob Anil D’Sa has been appointed the Asian International Young Catholic Students (IYCS) chaplain.
The 40-year-old Indian priest will be based at Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
The IYCS is a Catholic action movement of the apostolate of Laity. As an International Catholic organization, it functions under the Pontifical Council for the laity, Vatican.
The IYCS is committed to the United Nations with a consultative status to the Economic and Social Commission and operational status at UNESCO. It is mainly composed of students in secondary and tertiary institution, IYCS is present in 87 countries including in Asian countries.
The members of IYCS work for social transformation in the light of the Gospel and the different local realities. They build a stronger community based on the principles of understanding, solidarity, truth and charity.
In 2018, Father D’Sa was appointed national coordinator of Young Christian Students (YCS) and Indian Catholic Youth Movements (ICYM). Before that, he was the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission secretary. He was also Bosco Youth Regional director from 2011 to 2019.
Father D’Sa was born on July 15, 1978, in the Queen of the Universal parish, Ranipura, Mangalore diocese, Karnataka. He joined the Salesians on May 24, 1998, and took his final profession on May 23, 2006. He was ordained a priest on December 29, 2009.
