Panaji, August 6, 2019: The Goa Police rescued in 2018 a total of 102 women from commercial sex activities in the western Indian state.
Maharashtra topped the list with 28 women, followed by Goa with 13 and Bengal with 8. Delhi came fourth with 7 girls rescued.
Social workers in Goa are shocked to learn women from the state formed 13 percent of young women rescued from commercial sex activities. Until now, it was thought the sex workers in Goa were all from other states.
The list included four girls from Telangana, three each from Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
Two each came from Haryana, Gujarat, Assam and Bihar, while one each from Rajasthan, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
Of the 21 foreign national rescued, nine came from Bangladesh, six from Uzbekistan, 3 from Nepal and 1 each from Russia, Israel and Ukraine.
