Jaunpur, August 2, 2019: An addict to gambling, who bet his wife, allegedly allowed a friend and a relative to gang-rape her after losing his stake.

The police in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur initially refused to file a case based on the woman’s complaint, but registered a First Information Report after she approached a court.

Reports said her husband’s friend Arun and relative Anil often used to visit their house to drink and gamble. The man let the two gangrape his wife after he lost to them.

After the incident, the woman went to her maternal uncle’s house. Her husband followed her there and asked to be forgiven, saying he had made a mistake.

After he apologized, the woman went back with her husband in his car. On their way back, her husband stopped the car and allowed his friends to gang-rape her once again, she has alleged.

According to reports, an average eight women are raped and 30 abducted every day in Uttar Pradesh.

Officials, however, say that liberal approach adopted to register FIR of women complainants has resulted in increased crime figures and situation on the ground has improved.
