Panaji, Nov 5, 2019: Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao of Goa stressed the importance of creating relationship among the members of the family, neighbourhood and society.
“Jesus came telling us about a new kind of relationship with God, in one’s family and society at large,” the archbishop said on November 3 while speaking at the 53rd World Communication Day in St Sebastian’s Chapel in Panaji that celebrated the.
The theme for the celebrations was “We are members of One another (Eph:4:5).From Network Communities to the Human Community,” given by the Pope.
Referring to Pope Francis, Archbishop Filipe Neri said, “We are all called to live in relationship, as in a family. When we establish relationships, we are open to help people specially the sick, suffering and lonely in our neighborhood.”
“We are called to be a witness of truth and justice in this world as followers of Christ,” he emphasized.
“When we live in relationship our family life, Christian life and life in the society become beautiful, “he added.
In her introduction, Daughters of St Paul Sister Jyothy Kerketta echoed the message of Pope Francis saying, “The image of the body and the members reminds us that the use of the social web is complementary to an encounter in the flesh that comes alive through the body, heart, eyes, gaze, breath of the other. If the Net is used as an extension or expectation of such an encounter, then the network concept is not betrayed and remains a resource for communion.”
In a PowerPoint presentation on the theme, Jovito Lopes, a retired journalist from Herald newspaper, reminded the gathering how social media can build relationships.
“Social media is about relationship, and relationships are formed by real people connecting with each other. By engaging in social media, we become part of a community. Actually we gain access to many communities. We can get connected to people around the world who share our same interest and values,” he said.
The program was arranged by the Daughters of St Paul. The day was inaugurated on June 2 by Pope Francis in Rome.
