Shillong, November 1, 2019: Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya state, will host the fourth India International Cherry Blossom Festival 2019 with several cultural events.
The November 13-16 festival celebrates the unique autumn flowering of Himalayan Cherry Blossoms as well as the international year of indigenous languages. It will bring the Republic of Korea as a partner country.
The festival will include several Korean events, including a K-Pop concert, a Korean Taekwondo, Korean Cuisine and Arts stalls and exhibits on opportunities on education in the Southeast Asian nation. The Korean Cultural Centre India will collaborate with the local organizers, says a press release issued on November 1.
Visitors can enjoy fashion shows, rock concerts, beauty pageant and even compete in an amateur golf tournament. Alongside, there will be stalls showcasing the best of the region’s food, wine and crafts.
This festival will be held at Polo 5th Ground and the picturesque Ward’s Lake by the Meghalaya government’s Forest and Environment Department, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
State Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will inaugurate the festival in the presence of a Korean delegation led by its Indian ambassador Shin Bong-Kil.
The festival’s key event will be a summit between the Republic of Korea and the Meghalaya government on issues of environmental reclamation and waste to wealth. Several memorandums of Understanding are expected to be inked during the summit.
