Siliguri, Dec 5, 2019 — In an attempt to fight mobile addiction which keeps students dissipated and isolated, head of the Department of Psychology at Salesian College Siliguri Campus has started a game of Uno to engage college students with one another and have a healthy and hilarious moment.
“It is important to wean away students from mobile phone addiction which isolates them from outdoor games, healthy group activity and peer inter action,” says Father James Chacko Molekunnel, who has a PhD degree in Clinical Psychology from Ateneo Manila in the Philippines.
He claims using UNO cards for a group therapy ice breaker is “a simple trick” and could help with emotional awareness or simple getting to know you activities.
Former rector of the Salesian Philosophate at Sonada Father Molekunnel is director of the newly started Post Graduate Psychology Course at a decade old Salesian College Siliguri Campus.
Surrounded by a group of Uno aficionados and showing a deck of Uno cards, the Salesian priest explains the game saying, “Uno is the classic card game that’s easy to pick up and impossible to put down!”
Players, both boys and girls huddled around a table take turns matching a card in their hand with the current card shown on top of the deck either by color or number.
Special action cards deliver game-changing moments as they help defeat opponents. These include Skips, Reverses, Draw Twos, Wild and Draw Four Wild cards.
There are 25 cards of each color (red, green, blue, and yellow), eight Wild cards, three customizable cards and one Special Rule card inside the 112-card deck.
If one can’t make a match, one must draw from the central pile!
And when anyone is down to one card, he/she should shout “UNO!”
The first player to rid him/herself of all the cards at hand before the opponents wins.
