Indore, March 4, 2020: A human development center in Indore, central India, celebrated its 20th anniversary on the occasion of the “International Waste Pickers’ Day.”

More than 1,200 women, men, youth and children from the slums of Indore city associated with Janvikas (people’s welfare) Society, witnessed the March 1 event.

A video documentary was shown depicting the history, background and achievements of Janvikas during the past 20 years.

The program began at 6 pm with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries such as Divine Word Bishop Chacko Thottumarickal of Indore, the chief guest, and Father Johny D’Souza, the Divine Word Central provincial.

various groups from the slums associated with Janvikas performed cultural programs such as Adivasi dance, skit, abd mime.

The book “A Mirage” was released during the function. It is a study conducted in different cities on the impact of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on the waste pickers.

Jan Vikas Society is a registered non-profit organization based in Indore.

It works for the integral development of the underprivileged and marginalized people, who are deprived of their right to live as dignified and responsible citizens because of their ignorance, illiteracy and poverty.

the NGO, through its activities in the cities of Indore and Bhopal, focuses on the welfare of the unorganized laborers, rag-picking women and children, domestic workers, unemployed youth, street children, migrant and nomadic people.

The NGO collaborates with others making an effort to create an environment of justice, peace and integrity of creation.
