Bangalore, April 27, 2020: The Archdiocese of Bangalore, Karnataka, will begin a weekly series of ‘digital or virtual catechism’ lessons for families starting May 2 for seven weeks.
“Since the lockdown has stopped you [Catholics] from coming to the churches, we thought to bring the churches to your homes,” said Archbishop Peter Machado, releasing the promo of the ‘digital catechism’ on family catechesis lives on YouTube on April 25.
This family catechesis program is to enhance the spiritual growth of the families, enable experiential learning of faith, enrich the love between parents and children, encourage parents to be educators of faith, and empower them to live a gospel-style life.
Archbishop Machado is the main resource speaker and presenter for the virtual family catechism.
There will be seven sessions on seven successive Saturdays at 7 pm. Each segment of the seven-minute duration will be on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram of the archdiocese of Bangalore.
“Through this catechesis, an effort is to educate children in faith and morals with the help of parents. It is going to be a collaborative catechesis,” Father Sunny Richard John, director of Family Commission, told Matters India.
According to him, a guide sheet will be sent to parents online for them to do a reflection and activity with the kids.
“Parents are to send videos or pictures of activities done at home to the Family Commission through email and the same will be featured in the next session video,” said Father John.
“It is open to families outside Bangalore also since it is online. Priests will be in touch with the families through WhatsApp for any doubts in sessions,” said the priest.
A group of priests, laity and young people are roped in to prepare and produce the content for the digital catechism series for families, said Maria Isabel, a member.
