Guwahati, April 8, 2020: The ecumenical Assam Christian Forum on April 8 met Governor Jagdish Mukhi to apprise him of the relief works undertaken by various Christian groups among those reeling under the Covid-10 attack in the northeastern Indian state.
The Christian delegation, led by forum chairperson Archbishop John Moolachira of Guwahati, also expressed the community’s willingness to fight the coronavirus pandemic collectively. They also highlighted the plight of the poor and the marginalized, both in the rural as well as urban areas, facing the brunt of the crisis.
The delegation reminded the governor that Christians are in the middle of the Holy Week, the most sacred time for the community. However, the community members diligently adhere to all guidelines and instructions from the authorities to tackle the pandemic.
The governor appreciated the Churches’ services and said acknowledged the community’s expertise in relief and rehabilitation works. He also asked the delegates to spread the message of the use of the ‘face mask’ even after lifting of the lock down, as it was the need of the hour. According to him, the fight against coronavirus would be long drown lasting for months.
Other delegation members included Reverend Bernard Mark, general secretary of the Assam Baptist Convention, Reverend Abinash John, coordinator of Evangelical Fellowship of India’s northeast region and forum spokesperson Allen Brooks.
