Medak, April 14, 2020: Two centers of the Divine Word Missionaries of Hyderabad Province have been providing relief to migrants in Telangana state.
Hundreds of thousands of migrant workers have been affected by the nationwide lockdown in many parts of India.
Faith-based NGOs and others have been rendering help to the affected migrants to ease the distress and plight of poor people.
In Telangana, Asha Jyothi (Light of Hope) HIV/AIDS Care and Support Centre and Divine Word Social Service Center — are providing help to the needy with some food rations.
“In the spirit of Easter, we share with poor and marginalized migrants. With full security of ourselves, we could reach out to console these people with little that we could give and do,” Divine Word Father Florence Minz, administrator of Asha Jyothi, told Matters India.
Caring for others helps to develop empathy and the ability to connect with people, even in difficult times, he added.
“We distribute nutrition items to 20 migration families in Pregnapur, Siddipet District. It is a small act of kindness–reaching the unreached,” said Gannela Narendra of Divine Word Social Service Center.
So many needy people are around, but so little resources available. “We doing what we could with the support of many institutions and people of goodwill,” he added.
The Society of the Divine Word is an international Catholic religious congregation. They work in many states in India.
