New Delhi, May 13, 2020: India has become the 12th nation worst affected by Covid-19 in the world, just behind China where the pandemic first broke out.

As on May 13, India recorded nearly 78,000 positive cases and more than 2,500 deaths, whereas China had some 83,000 cases and more than 4,600 deaths.

A senior health ministry official said the recovery rate in India is 32.83 percent patients.

The total confirmed cases in India included foreign nationals too.

The United States remains the worst affected nation with more than 1,414,000 positive cases and nearly 84,000 deaths.

Spain came second with more than 271,000 positive cases and 27,100 deaths.

Russia took the third spot (242,271; 27,104), followed by the United Kingdom (229,705; 33,186), Italy (222,104; 31,106), Brazil (179,457; 12,531), France (178,225; 57,785), Germany (173,647; 7,788), Turkey (143,114; 3,952), and Iran (112,725; 6,783).

In India, Maharashtra topped the list with 25,992 cases at the end of May 13. As many as 1,495 cases were added in the past 24 hours. The western Indian state accounted for 975 deaths.

Its northern neighbor Gujarat came a distant second with 9,268 cases, including 364 new ones.

Close behind was Tamil Nadu in southern India with 9,227 (509) positive cases and 64 deaths. Delhi was the fourth in the list with 7,998 (359) cases and 106 deaths.
