Darjeeling, May 24, 2020: South Asia region of Salesians of Don Bosco this year has a total of 83 novices making their first profession.
They were trained in five novitiates in India — Chennai, Darjeeling, Dimapur, Kerala and Shillong – and one in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Salesian South Asia region consists of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.
Of the new novices, 79 took their first vows on May 24 after completing one year novitiate formation that comprises prayer, discernment and learning the Salesian life.
Four novices of the Colombo province will make their first profession on August 15.
Welcoming the new members, South Asia Regional Councilor Father Biju Michael said, “We are immensely grateful to God who continues to bless us with vocations.”
“Every call is an indication that the Lord loves the Congregation, wants to see it vibrant for the good of the Church and never ceases to enrich it with new apostolic energy,” he reminded his confreres.
Father Michael also prayed that “May our Blessed Mother Mary accompany our newly professed confreres to live out their lives in a service of permanent dedication to the young.”
Of the 79 new Salesians, 75 are clerics and four lay Brothers.
